Curiously Social Creatures (vsn for non-monogamous & poly-identified folks) in Brunswick
People can be fun. Talking with people and getting to know them can be really fun! The social event Curiously Social Creatures begins by introducing the rules for Q&A. This is a structured way of having conversations in groups of about five other people, at times funny, at times profound, at times... whatever mood your group is in. Its a way of getting to know people that doesnt hinge on the usual social laws; the structure allows people that normally carry the conversational load to sit back and relax, and it allows for quieter people to be heard. Its a bit like speed-dating. Except its not quick, and nor is it about dating. And nor does it feel like a dating or pick-up event. But you do get to connect with a bunch of folks. We change the groups around half way through the event, so that youll have a different group of people to get to know. This is the only event that Curious Creatures runs at a pub - we find a drink helps lubricate conversations, and it’s nice to be able to eat, too. We run three versions of this event: - Version for the public - all welcome! for literally anyone. - Version for ‘Curiosity people only’ only for people that have done the ‘Curiosity’ workshop: - Version for non-monogamous and poly-identified folks for anyone that self-identifies as being interested in non-monogamous relationship styles. Facilitator/s: Roger Butler or Tess Version: Non-Monogamous & Poly-Identified folks Curiously Social Creatures is presented by Roger Butler or Tess. Rog has been the principal facilitator and driving force behind Curious Creatures for nine years. Their training is in sexuality, facilitation, and counselling, and they’re easily one of Australia’s most prolific sexuality facilitators. Tess is an experienced facilitator in sexuality and self-development, and has been co-facilitating for Curious Creatures for over three years. They’re also a qualified occupational therapist with a deep passion for, and experience working in, sexuality in neurological rehabilitation and disability, in community and clinical settings. Find out more about Rog, Tess and the team: See full details of this event at Read a writeup in The Sydney Morning Herald: This is one of ~30 workshops offered by Curious Creatures (Australia’s biggest provider in the field). If you’re interested in this event you may want to check out the online version, ‘Online Social’. See all in-person, online, and pre-recorded workshops at INTENSITY: You can get into some deep conversations, but most people regard this as fairly gentle; one, or maybe two, out of four chillies. WHO FOR: Anyone that is interested in meeting people and having real conversation. WHO NOT FOR: Not for people that dont like people. Also, although this event doesn’t support drunkenness, you’ll need to be comfortable around folks drinking alcohol. Please be mindful that you choose the right version of this event (there’s a version for literally anyone, a version for people that have done the ‘Curiosity’ workshop, and a version for non-monogamous people). WHAT EXERCISES / ACTIVITIES?: ‘Curious Q&A’ in groups of 4-7 people. WILL THERE BE PARTNER WORK?: No. HOW WILL PARTNERING BE DONE?: Not relevant. CAN YOU WORK WITH AN EXISTING PARTNER / FRIEND?: Not relevant. NUDITY: No nudity in this workshop (We mention this only because Curious Creatures runs a lot of sexuality workshops). SEXUAL CONTENT: No sexual content, however sexually themed questions have been known to happen. COMMITMENT: You can pass on any question thats not right for you. You can also answer only to the level thats right for you; you dont have to give up your lifes secrets if you dont want to. RATIO EXPERIENTIAL / THEORETICAL: Mostly experiential. Theres a small amount of theory, just to explain the rules of Curious Q&A. WEAR: Anything; there is no dress code beyond standard pub dress-codes. LOGISTICS LATE POLICY: This workshop, ‘Curiously Social Creatures’, is the only Curious Creatures workshop where we’ll let you in if you’re more than 10 minutes late.
