The Regional Music of Mexico in San Diego
This presentation is the second of six programs in the Center for World Music’s Spring 2021 Virtual Encounters with World Music series. The Regional Music of MexicoFeaturing Hermanos Herrera with Ethnomusicologist Tim RiceJanuary 31, 2:00 pm This 50-minute live-hosted music and discussion event will explore the human experience expressed through three styles of Mexican regional music. Members of Hermanos Herrera and Tim Rice will examine three traditional styles of Mexican music. They will consider Son Jarocho, Son Huasteco, and the accordion-based norteñomusic with roots in northern Mexico. Hermanos Herrera will discuss each genre’s history, stylistic differences, and how they came about to be performers of these traditional Mexican music styles. In addition to the pre-selected musical performance examples, Hermanos Herrera will have instruments in hand to answer any questions about a particular instrument or music style. The event will be a fun-filled and music-filled presentation, so bring your dancing shoes and your questions for the band! Registration required. Hermanos Herrera will be addressing questions from the audience. Guests can log into YouTube to comment and ask questions of the artist. More information on the Center for World Music website.
